Sierra
Sierra is a Premarin rescue - adopted as a foal, saved from a slaughterhouse auction. She was born in Canada on a farm that produced mare urine for use in the production of the cruelty drug Premarin. Her mother lived a life of isolation and confinement, unable to turn around or lie die as she was attached to machinery intended to collect her urine. The foals - unwanted by product of this process - are sent to slaughter by the tens of thousands.
Sierra is a draft/quarter horse cross, our best guess. She is approximately 16.2 hands and weighs just under 1200 pounds. She is a mighty girl with a mind of her own. She has beautiful gaits which continue to improve with age.
She has competed in both limited distance endurance and competitive trail. She boasts a number of top ten endurance finishes and three (3) Best Other Breed for competitive trail. She enjoys being with her riding friends, especially Kai, Shalizar, Slim, Jake, Fancie, and Coup.
We spend most weekends somewhere in Florida on a trail, enjoying our beautiful weather and scenery.
Sierra died early Tuesday morning May 28th just as I was returning from a weekend visit to St. Kitts. She colicked earlier on Monday. The vet was out and everything seemed to be going fine, then she took a turn for the worse and her pain became unbearable. It didn't make sense to even try and take her to Gainesville. She would not have survived the trip.
She was laid to rest around 1 a.m. Thank you to all of my friends who were there and supported Joe and I during this very sad time. We will miss Sierra forever.
